OVERVIEW
One of Iraq's oldest refineries, opened in Anbar province in 1949 with a single 6,000 b/d unit; a second 10,000 b/d unit followed in 1982. Production halted after ISIL overran Anbar in 2015 and later restarted; the refinery's manager has stated current output is close to 16,000 b/d, with a project underway (roughly 70% complete per recent reporting) to raise capacity toward 36,000 b/d via a Honeywell UOP-backed development contract.
